Nuatali Nelmes for NSW Labor State Policy Forum
As an experienced advocate from the Hunter, with a lifelong commitment to social justice, equality and democracy, I am seeking your support to represent Labor members on the NSW Labor State Policy Forum.
I have been a proud rank-and-file member of the Australian Labor Party for over 20 years.
As an elected Labor Councillor for more than a decade, I regularly see the disconnect between our state policy and the views of rank-and-file members. I want to help fix that.
Coming from the Hunter, I know how important good local jobs are for our community. We need progressive Labor policies that continue to support our traditional blue-collar industries while also looking to future opportunities for our next generation of workers.
In local government, some policies from the state government simply do not reflect the lived experiences of our local community and I would like your support to change that.
Under this Liberal/National Government, our planning system is broken and Labor’s strong environmental legacy is being attacked every day.
I’m re-energised by the priorities that have been set by Opposition Leader Jodi McKay and her new Shadow Cabinet, and I am keen to work closely with this new team to help deliver the policies needed for us to win in 2023.
I am proud of Labor’s achievements on City of Newcastle Council.
Under my leadership, we have delivered progressive policies that resonate with our communities, and in less than two Council terms, we have increased Labor’s primary vote by 25 per cent – winning an outright majority in the Council chamber for the first time since the 1970s.
I know what it takes to develop popular, progressive policies and I ask for your vote to join the NSW Labor Policy Forum.
Rank-and-file members from across NSW will shortly be receiving ballots to vote in this Policy Forum election, and I am asking for your support. I am encouraging all Members to elect strong, progressive candidates to this important forum. For my suggested 'How to Vote' card, please click here.
Please do not hesitate to send me a reply email if you would like to know more about why I am running to join the NSW Labor State Policy Forum.
