Recycling centre open at Summerhill

AT THE end of March, I opened a Community Recycling Centre (CRC), where householders in Newcastle and the region can drop off problem wastes such as paints, oils, gas bottles, ewaste and batteries for free.

Council established the CRC at our Summerhill Waste Management Centre in Wallsend supported by a $115,000 grant from the NSW Government's Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.

Community Recycling Centres are permanent drop-off centres for common household problem wastes that can't be collected via council kerbside waste and recycling collection services.

NSW householders can drop off problem wastes at these centres year round for free, during normal landfill operating hours.

Newcastle's Community Recycling Centre is at Minmi Road, Wallsend.

It is open weekdays: 7.30am-5pm; weekends and public holidays: 9am-3pm (closed Good Friday and Christmas Day).

The CRC accepts the following problem wastes for free: water-based, oil-based paints used motor oils, other oils lead-acid, hand-held batteries gas cylinders, fire extinguishers conventional tube and compact fluorescent lamps smoke detectors e-waste, mobile phones needle sharps.
